A couple of weeks ago Google created a customized home page and demostrated how you could add RSS content to the page. The initial choices were few, but it was clear that the the structure had been put in place for the future. Tonight they rolled out the changes and allowed for more customization and turned the home page to a full RSS reader. Incredible !
Palm changed their logo the other day (again). Mike Rohde and Russell Beattie have written great posts about the new logo, so I will try not to cover to much of the same material. As I look at the before and after I keep asking myself is it better ? What is it tring to convey ? Or do I even care ? There are two things that jump to my attention. The first is just the fact that it has changed or morphed again. I think if you could the Handspring logos that were incorporated over the years there have been 4 or 5 since the companies inception. And we are not talking abount minor enhancements to the color or feel - I am talking wholesale forklift upgrades!
The other thing that jumps to my attention is how flat it looks and feels. The lack of dimensionality or convexness to me is a huge issues. The flatness of the logo reads to me like the status of the company. If nothing else, Palm should have attempted to smooth out the striations in color. In my opinion it looks like a student submission for homework in logo 101.
I think I am going to have to borrow a great idea from my friend and fellow blogger. I am going to offer a song of the week as a selection. The song of the week may be an old favorite, a new song from an unknown
or under recognized musician or just a song from a great writer. I just finished ripping my entire music collection to my laptop. While I was doing it I found some fabtastic music that I had forgotten about.
This weeks song comes from the Fine Young Cannibals from 1990 album The Raw and the Cooked. This song was one of just a few songs that did not come out as a single, but should have. The song is Tell Me What and it is a great remake of the Tamla Motown sound. If you don't have this album you should check it out. If you don't have this song, you should get it !
OK I admit it... I love the new reality show Rock Star. Maybe it was because there is nothing else on TV in the summer, maybe it is because the contestants are really good, but more likely it is because I always wanted to be one.
I was a little surprised that CBS created this show. I think there was a risk since INXS has not created an album since Michael Hutcheson's death in November of 1997 and if the show is a success how will they duplicate it ? I was also concerned that it was going to be a direct rip-off of American Idol. There are similar elements. INXS and Dave Navaro provide the contestants feedback on their performance but at least there is no Ryan Seacrest !
Only two episodes have aired, so there is still time for them to make it goofy, but for now it is very entertaining.
